Going on a surf trip to Bali is one of the best decisions you could ever make! Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced surfer, Bali has waves for everyone. Here at Good Vibes Surf Club, we cater to anyone who wants to improve their surfing skills whilst having a relaxing holiday getaway in a lesser-known part of the island, and we aim to create an unforgettable Bali surf trip experience like no other! So, what is the best way to prepare for a surf trip to paradise?
The Essential Things
The SUN in Bali is extremely powerful so it is important to be sun-safe to ensure extensive fun in the sun! This entails packing a hat, sunnies, reef-safe sunblock, zinc, and possibly a rash guard.
Fun in the sun not only entails time in the surf but also time on the beach! A beach towel or as we call “SARONG” is an excellent item to pack on your surf trip to Bali as they are lightweight and multifunctional, acting as towels, skirts, and scarves. If you forget to pack one, don’t worry! You will most likely be able to purchase one from a local store at almost any beach you visit!
If you’re an intermediate surfer, it would be worth packing your own SURFBOARD and SURF GEAR as it will make you feel more comfortable in the water! This means surfboard, leash, fins, spares, reef booties, fin key, and surf wax (if applicable for the tropical Bali water temperatures).
Whether you’re looking to explore Bali’s reef breaks or catch your first white water with us on the black sand shores of Kedungu, it is well-advised to be prepared with a FIRST AID KIT as Bali is rugged and also humid. Hospitals and pharmacies are widely accessible, however, it does come in handy to be prepared to clean and treat minor cuts.
The Body and Mind
Surfing is a demanding sport for the body so it is better to be PHYSICALLY PREPARED before your trip to enjoy it to its full potential! Paddling in particular, is a very specific form of exercise - and so the best way to prepare for surfing is to practice paddling, even if there are no waves. Alternative exercises include swimming, yoga, squats, burpees, push-ups, and cardio.
Catch up on your INDONESIAN! Get a guide to simple everyday phrases or practice the language on Duolingo prior to your trip. Speaking the local language can help you with everyday tasks, emergencies, and simply help you make friends with the local people - something that makes a big part of a surf trip to Bali. ♡
Bonus Tip
Do RESEARCH on the waves that you are planning on surfing or the areas you are thinking of exploring! By downloading apps such as Surfline, you will be able to not only receive forecasts for swells but also get a rundown on the different waves and what conditions they work best on.
Now that you’ve got your surf trip checklist in hand, you’re one step closer to an unforgettable Bali surf adventure with Good Vibes Surf Club! Being prepared is the key to making the most of your time in paradise. Pack smart, stay sun-safe, and get ready to soak up the island’s good vibes both in and out of the water.
We can’t wait to welcome you to Bali! See you in the lineup!
